Steps in Organizing Your Wardrobe

First and foremost, empty your closet of all its contents organizing them into neat piles as you go that group them into general groups.  For example, one heap can have all your jeans, another for all your jackets and so on and so forth.

Next go from pile to pile and try every single one of your clothing items, yes even the ones you regularly wear. Use the mirror to evaluate how much you like the specific item according to: Style Expression (fashion ability), Lifestyle (does it reflect your lifestyle), Style (does it accentuate your assets while disguising your unwanted aspects) and lastly according to Color (does it satisfy your tastes).  The most difficult part in this step is the decision to let go of items that you feel doesn’t work for you anymore. Clothing articles with sentimental value are the ones hardest to let go of. Keep them in a box for a few more months in say your attic storage. In time you’d end up forgetting the contents thus making it easier to let go. If your clothes don’t fit you or are too loose, let them go and place them along with the other items you intend to donate.

After selecting the ones that do have potentials for future use, get to mending torn or other damaged clothes you have been meaning to fix for so long. If your clothes needs expert repair and you think it wouldn’t be worth the extra cost get rid of it as well. You might just end up with an old mended item that costs more than a newer one of the same style and make. Clothes that could do with a little accenting can be kept for future repair but make sure to it that you do get to it as soon as possible.

Next, again try on all the thinned down garments and try to mix and match colors and styles.  Those items you see ass still worth to keep but don’t have any useful combinations could be that target of future shopping trips for clothes. Don’t forget to include accessories that you have accumulated through the years. They are also a part of your wardrobe however small they may be.

Organize them again into the proper groupings and put them back into your closet making sure everything is arranged in a way that you could easily see and retrieve when you do need to use them.  Check your hangers if they can still get the job done, if they have sagged or are no longer in form and tend to be the cause of unwanted fold or creases, settle for newer higher quality hangers that would last longer. Avoid hanging pants in half-folded form for they tend to retain that crease long after they have been removed from hangers. Some fabrics also tend do suffer from discoloration if not used for a while leaving a lighter band of color on the area at the crease of your pants. Try to purchase special hanging units for ties and accessories so they are easily accessible when you access your clothes and they also give you a better view when selecting alternatives to the ones you usually associate with specific clothes.
